Hearing Your Heart
Your mind thinks, but your heart knows.
It is important therefore to spend time listening attentively and fully to your wonderful and magnificent heart.
The Voice of The Heart
How does the voice of our heart manifest to us?
Sometimes, the heart speaks to us as feelings. We are "moved to" do something, say something, express something, complete a certain task.
In extreme cases, when we have not been listening to our heart, we may get a rude wake-up call. Our energetic heart will literally start hurting physically right from the center of the chest.
Or, perhaps you just know instinctively that you need to do something, and that instinct comes right from your heart.
Some people effortlessly listen to their heart and take action to give voice to wisdom and desires of their heart. Most people though (especially smart, intellectual, high-achieving people!) have been socially trained to ignore what their heart is saying. "Let me think," we might say... and then we start going into the mind and analyzing things. Our heart gets pushed down, dismissed, ignored in favour of "Logical" analytical solutions. For most of us therefore, it's a process of learning how to Be with Our Heart and trust what it's saying.
Practices for Listening to Your Heart
Here are some useful practices feeling, hearing and discerning what your heart is saying...
- Let go and "do nothing productive". Go to the zoo, take a walk, go do something outside of your normal routine of productional activities. Not setting a specific intention to 'listen to your heart' is sometimes the best thing to do. (If you're analytical and have a pattern of going into your mind, setting up an intention to 'listen to your heart' is like a trigger signal for your mind to start working on a new project!)
- Be with people who are heart-centered. If you have friends or family who are incredibly heart-full people, being in their presence and speaking to them will help you open your heart in a natural and enjoyable way. Their aura will help entrain yours (and you) to feel your wants, desires and voices of your heart.
- Watch movies and be present in experiences that trigger your emotions. When you are in 'intense' settings, the energy of an intense setting sends massive energy at you that can sometimes open up latent feelings and messages in your heart that weren't coming through loud enough for you to hear. Watch an emotionally-moving film and see how you feel after it. You may feel moved to do certain things after the film -- a message from your heart!
Have fun playing around with these practices and happy heart-listening!
